Transporter Of Souls
By: Tammy Vreeland
Evan's boss John realizes that Evan has become burned out with Police Towing. The death and destruction that Evan sees on a daily basis has finally taken its toll. Not wanting to lose Evan, John proposes for Evan to start his own business in towing salvage cars.
John assures Evan that he can provide him with enough contacts to start the business up. And some how strangely enough the money becomes available to Evan with the unexpected passing of his grandmother.
Now with a new business and a new love interest Evan begins his new life. But soon Evan quickly realizes that the horrors he has encountered at the scene of accidents may not be the end of life as he thought. That maybe souls are still trapped in the ruins of cars they perished in. A curse that began with the very first known automobile accident. A curse that continues to this day. And as with most curses, man has figured a way not to remove it but to profit from it.
PROLOGUE
It is a hot summer day as the horse drawn wagon makes it way down the side of the mountain towards town. The man at the reigns tries desperately to maneuver the horses around the small confining path that they use as a road.
His family huddles in the back trying to anticipate each turn and bump along the way. Although slow going and very dangerous, it is the only way to get the whole family into town for the festival.
Just ahead, the man sees a cloud of dust and hears a loud rumbling noise coming up the path towards them. With a steep cliff to the one side of him and a thick forest barrier to the other side there is nowhere for the man to pull over.
As the sound gets closer, the horses begin to panic. The man tries to stop the horses but they become afraid and start going faster. Not wanting to go towards the sound the horses try to turn and back up. However, harnessed to the wagon only limits their movement and makes them even more frustrated.
The family in the back has no idea what to do other than try and hold on to each other. The man in the front tries to unlatch the harness to allow the horses to run free thus saving his family from going over the side of the cliff.
The rumbling and the dust cloud comes closer making the horses more frantic. Both horses rear up just as the man can see some sort of contraption coming towards them. When the horses reared up, the man is thrown off to the side. The wagon, with the family still inside, along with the horses tumbles over the side of the cliff.
The man screams as he hears his own family screaming in pain and agony as they fall to their death. Grief stricken the man looks up from the road to see a contraption coming towards him at full speed. Terrified as a deer in headlights the man simply watches as the machine comes at him. It hits him hard and literally rolls right over the top of him.
Barely conscious the man on the road sees two town people get out of the machine and run over towards him. He hears the one man tell the other "Henry, I told you it wasn't a good idea to bring the automobile up here. Look what you have done!"
Henry bends down to help the man, "Sir? Are you ok?"
The man points over to the side of the cliff and whispers, "My family...."
Henry looks over to Jonathan as Jonathan peers over the side of the cliff, "Henry, my God you have to see this!"
Henry runs over to where Jonathan is standing and looks down the cliff. There he sees several bodies scattered along the mountainside. Two dead horses and what looked to once be a wagon shattered among the rocks with them.
Jonathan looks at Henry stunned, "What are we going to do?"
Henry quickly replies, "We're going to put him with his family."
Jonathan shakes his head no, "Are you crazy? We can't do that, the man is still alive!"
Henry looks disgustedly towards the man, "He's just a damn gypsy and he's pretty far gone, he wouldn't make it anyway. If we do this it will just look like they all went over and it was not our fault."
Henry pauses and goes on, "We can take the automobile back into town and not breathe a word of this to anyone."
Defiantly Jonathan answers, "But everyone knows we came up this way. In fact, they all told us not to but your arrogance brought us here anyway!"
Walking back to the man in the road, Henry says, "I'm not going to fight with you. We will just say we only went up a little way and turned around because the road was so bad. Anyway by the time anyone finds them we'll be long gone."
Knowing no other choice Jonathan agrees and helps pick the man up and takes him to the side of the cliff. As they are about to throw the man over to join his family the man whispers quietly, "I avenge my family by placing the strongest of curses I know. Know this; anyone who shall die in any type of contraption known as your automobile their soul will forever be trapped!"
BACKGROUND
Transporter of Souls is another personal story based on certain actual events. When I first met my husband he was doing Salvage cars. He had a 4-Car Carrier and would pick up cars from the auction and deliver them to Salvage yards.
I had really never given it much thought to where wrecked cars went or much less cared. But when I started to go with him in the truck I realized what a strange situation it all was. Especially when we would pick up cars that people had died in. Which in turn gave a good basis for another Horror story.
As with my first book The Folks, I would never want to portray the story as based on actual events. Transporter of Souls, is simply a story created from a few real life experiences.
This book gives you a peek into the world of towing and used car dealers. And of course my own spin to make it interesting. I did quite a bit of research for this one, ranging from the history of the car industry to the percentages of deaths in automobile accidents.
Although a touchy subject, I in no way minimize the trauma of losing someone in a car accident. If anything, I try to portray the enormity of such a loss. I truly believe that real horror is every day tragedy. Seeing it first hand only strengthen that belief.
My husband and I now own a 9-car carrier and no longer transport Savage cars. I can honestly say we both are quite happy to have moved on, some of the things we saw were quite disheartening.
I'm hoping that I have provided the reader with a new and unique type of Horror Story and yet one that may make them stop and think. None of us should ever take for granted that driving is serious and can have serious consequences.

SUMMARY
Tammy Vreeland loves to include more dialogue than description so that the readers are free to imagine whatever they want, and this element can be seen in the Transporter of Souls.

The author of Transporter of Souls, Tammy Vreeland grew up in Monrovia in Indiana. The town she grew up in was small and her only escape was reading. Books took Vreeland to places that she had never been to before and put her in situations that she has never been in before. Her passion for reading and learning about more things kept the excitement in her life. Other than reading, her passions include writing and she likes to write just the way she loves to read.
As a child, Vreeland used to love to read Clyde Barker and Stephen King. As a writer, she aims at keeping her storyline unique and does not adhere to modern day story line. In case of a writer’s block, she goes on a motorcycle ride and takes the help of the wind to free her from all the obstacles. She likes to practice archery but her one true love is writing.
Transporter of Souls is the story of Evan. His boss John realizes that Evan is tired of Police Towing. Evan has experienced a lot of death and destruction that has finally taken a toll on his life. John doesn’t want to lose Evan, which is why he suggests that Evan start his own business of towing salvage cars. John says that he will provide him with contacts that will help him with his new passage. Evan’s grandmother dies and gets a hold of a handsome amount of money.
Evan realizes that there may be souls trapped in the cars that they died in. This is a curse that began with the first automobile accident, and just like most curses one, must learn how to make a profit off of them.
Tammy Vreeland loves to include more dialogue than description so that the readers are free to imagine whatever they want, and this element can be seen in the Transporter of Souls.
Transporter of Souls
Review by Tom Henry
I must say I was quite pleased with Transporter of Souls. I had never heard of the author much less knew that she had 2 other books out which I plan on getting. What I liked most about Transporter of Souls was the idea. I'm an avid Horror/Suspense reader and I must admit I've never seen any other book or movie like this. It was refreshing to see something new and unique. The characters were likable and the author had a real knack for making you feel as if you are right along with her. A true horror classic...I look forward to seeing what her other books are like.

GREAT READ! I finished Transporter of Souls last night and enjoyed it from cover to cover. I like the way you threw out clues along the way and wove them together
perfectly in the end. You did your historical research (gypsies during the Holocaust), and even connected the story to current events. GREAT JOB! So many people start to write books, but never finish them. You've finished FOUR! AWESOME!

"Something Different"
If you could sum up Transporter of Souls in three words, what would they be?
A cool concept
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
It did...it certainly makes me think about buying used cars!
Which character – as performed by Tammy Vreeland – was your favorite?
Her reading is very simple...none of the characters stand out due to her narration but in the story I liked Evan.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
What Jaws did to water Transporter of Souls does to used cars...
Any additional comments?
It was a good story!
