By: Tammy Vreeland
Tonya has just received a call from Darla, an old school mate, asking her to come to a class reunion. Feeling guilty about leaving and never looking back, Tonya decides to go.
The reunion is all about catching up with old friends. One friend though is quite upset with the different paths people chose after graduation. They feel it is their duty to keep the reputation of the class and school intact. Through the years they had done exactly that.
Its a simple concept, they plan on using the different types of kills Tonya uses in her current horror book "Classmates" to make their own statement. This will take the suspicion off them placing it on what may simply be a fan of Tonya's making a point.
Only the classmates themselves will know the true identity of the killer but by then it will be too late!
The shadowy figure goes over a list that is in front of them. Beside the list is an invitation to a class reunion. They smile to themselves as they think of what a big event it truly will be. They walk over to a huge cork board filled with names and
Some names and pictures have a class ring attached to them. The figure smiles as they caress the rings lovingly. It had been a good class, small and never really any major problems.
That's what nice about a small school, its so much easier to keep the outside world out. But that all changed after graduation. Each one going their own separate ways.
The world corrupting them into people you could hardly recognize any more. It was a shame and something needs to be done. A small school has a reputation to uphold.
It is the very symbol of American life. Classmates actions should not be allowed to tarnish that class or school's reputation. And yet, so many had strayed. Too many.
They reach over for Tonya's book reading the title out loud "Classmates"? What would Tonya think if she knew her book would be the basis of a cleansing of her own classmates? They walk back over to the list and mark the last name off. They silently smile, all are accounted for now.
"Class Reunion" was actually never planned. I was in the middle of my fourth book "The Family Tree" when my own class reunion came about.
Although, I didn't get to go, I did get to make it back to Indy to go to a wedding. During so, I was able to meet up with a couple of friends from school.
One friend, Bruce Lauderman, was suffering from cancer. He was a dear friend of mine and later passed in the same year. I am so glad I was able to see him one last time.
As I said, I was in the middle of a book and I was having troubles on how I wanted to continue with the story. Another good friend of mine, Darla, suggested I write a book about all the kids we went to school with. At first, I teased her that I would have to kill them off and I did not know if I could do that.
I kicked around the idea and then before I knew it, I had an outline for the whole book. It was actually quite fun to write. I made fun of myself, talked about politics and religion, and
just basically vented about everything going on in the news.
I never dreamed I would write a slasher book and I'm pretty certain I never will again but I think it turned out pretty good. The characters in the book that I used to kill were fictional.
However, Darla,Mary,Jodi,Chuck,Darrell,Deanna,John & Sherrie (whose wedding was the one I attended) are people I went to school with.
"Class Reunion" is completely different than any of my other books. But, I think it was a good thing, to the fact that it gave me a break from "The Family Tree". When I finished, I was so refreshed and had so many new ideas for "The Family Tree" that I was able to finish it the very next month.
I grew up in the era of the classic slasher movies. When my boys grew older we use to watch quite a few of them. They were always into the blood and gore, where the supernatural always interested me.
But, I did like how some of the slasher movies would make fun of themselves with a witty comment as they cut some one's arm off. These movies always seemed to be the lighter side of the Horror genre.
And, I have to admit is exactly what this book is when compared to my others. So, sit back and relax and hopefully you will be entertained.
Just finished Tammy Vreeland's latest book. Wasn't expecting a slasher type book, but I was surprised at how well she was able to pull it off. The book read so well that I was through it before I realized it. It was a very creative story with several stories within the story, its definitely a nice summer read!
